The Nymphenburg Palace should not be left out when it comes to the most extraordinary sights in Munich and surroundings. The building was inaugurated in 1675 and served for a long time as the summer residence of the Wittelsbach family. Besides the Museum, the palace park is one of the Munich highlights. Right next to it is located the botanical garden with its 229 hectares, modeled after the baroque gardens of the Palace of Versailles and the castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte. Of special interest is also the Apollo temple at Badenburger Lake – a Monopteros built in the Corinthian style with ten columns.
